Celebrating Women's History Month

Sixth graders are celebrating Women's History Month by finding out more about some outstanding women who made history (and some who still are making history!). The inspiration for this project came from a Fact Monster website called "Women Who Made Their 'Stamp' on History" which highlights women (or their artwork) that has been featured on postage stamps.

Digital Citizenship

The sixth grade classes are focusing on two big questions during the month of November.

What is Digital Citizenship?

How does Digital Citizenship affect us?

Students are creating short cartoons using PowToon to share the importance of being a responsible digital citizen. Check back to see our finished projects.

Atkins Kindergartners have been practicing their Jolly Phonics as well as learning some new math games, such as these games that give students practice using ordinal numbers.

Atkins Second Graders Creating Book Trailers

The Atkins library has lots of new books. So in order to help students choose their next book, Atkins second graders are creating book trailers to show off some of those new library books.

Students are working with a small group to read the books, write a script without giving away the ending, and then create the short video using the iPad app Tellagami.

Sumdog

Throughout the year, Benton Community student in grades 1-6 will occasionally use a website called ‘SUMDOG’  (www.sumdog.com).  On Sumdog, students can play games to practice hundreds of free math games.  The questions are tailored to your student’s grade level and individual needs.

I encourage you to help your student log in and use this website at home. There is no charge to play the games (other than your own internet fees).  If you do not have internet access at home, your local library has computers for public use.

INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAY MATH GAMES ON SUMDOG:

1. Access the Internet.

2. Go to www.sumdog.com

3. Click on the word LOGIN to the right of the screen.

4. The student will be asked to put in their login information (which you can contact your child's classroom teacher or myself to obtain if you did not already receive it).
